Recent PayID data breach

There was a recent data breach involving another financial institution’s systems that meant over 90,000 PayID registrants had their information compromised. In this figure, a handful of SERVICE ONE Members were impacted. 

Upon being notified of this breach by our transaction partner, Cuscal, we contacted impacted Members to advise them of the breach and encourage them to be extra vigilant when it comes to unsolicited SMS and email communications they may receive. In addition, our fraud monitoring service has these impacted accounts flagged to monitor activity carefully.

Cuscal has advised us that immediate action was taken to remediate and contain the issue so there is nothing to suggest more SERVICE ONE Members are likely to be impacted moving forward.

Regardless, it is a timely reminder to ensure we all practice good safety measures. This includes not clicking links or opening attachments in unsolicited emails or SMS messages unless you are absolutely certain it is from a reliable source, understanding ‘if it seems too good to be true’, it probably is and never providing personal and banking information through an unsolicited phone call, email or SMS message. If someone is claiming to be from your bank or another supplier, take their name and call the organisation back using publicly available contact details to check the legitimacy of it.
