SERVICE ONE Social Venture Catalyst

Attention: open in a new window. Print

As a social enterprise, SERVICE ONE is passionate about seeing other for-purpose social ventures established in the ACT and surrounding NSW region. We have a vested interest in helping these socially-conscious businesses to grow and thrive - and the SERVICE ONE Social Venture Catalyst aims to do just that!

We’re proud to bring the SERVICE ONE Social Venture Catalyst to life once again with our partners at Mill House Ventures. The SERVICE ONE Social Venture Catalyst is a crowdfunding initiative powered by StartSomeGood to help selected for-purpose ventures raise funds to bring their business ideas to life! Crowdfunding is also an ideal way to quickly and effectively test the value proposition of a new venture.

SERVICE ONE has provided seed funding to kick start the crowdfunding efforts of selected ventures (shown below). After a month long campaign, the community got behind these initiatives, with three of the five getting to their targets. Check out their stories and what they are trying to achieve below.

Accountability Matters - to fund the Accountability Mate Program

The Accountability Mate Program will provide skills, knowledge and training to the every day man who wants to make a difference and reduce the incidence of domestic and/or family violence in the community. The program will harness the positive levers and influence of male peer relationships by giving men the skills to know when and how to intervene safely if they are concerned someone they know may be at risk of using or escalating violence against their partner or children. The program will work with experts in the field and connect with frontline services to ensure men get the right support at the right time to prevent further abuse, stop preventable harm and reduce the rate of domestic homicides.

Climate Factory – to fund the building of a pilot micro-forest in Canberra (Cole Street Park, Downer)

The micro-forest will take action against the increasing urban temperatures by mimicking a natural forest with a dense pocket of vegetation that includes trees, shrubs, ground-covers, climbers and perennials. The micro-forest will cool the landscape, provide habitat, absorb carbon and provide the community with hope for a brighter future. The pilot micro-forest in Downer will be used to trial a community-funded re-vegetation model that could be applied to areas of need across Canberra.

The APATCE conference will create awareness of the size of the accessible tourism market (for travel and leisure businesses, local, federal and regional governments and tourism bodies), provide the accessible travel/leisure sector and accessibility-related infrastructure suppliers a forum to market directly to their target customers, and give individuals with accessibility needs exposure to options for travel/leisure activities.

The Refoundry – to fund the development of the Stray No More pet barrier made from recycled plastic

The Stray No More Pet Barrier is a retractable barrier to prevent pets from escaping the home or yard. The product is designed to decrease the number of stray animals that end up in shelters each year and to keep pets safe. The Refoundry also aims to help the environment by reducing the amount of plastic in landfill and waterways -  the product is made from nearly 100% recycled Australian plastics and is manufactured in Australia.
